In an Emergency

In case of emergency at any time, incuding outside normal surgery hours, please telephone the normal surgery number or 01294 462570.

All practices must provide a 24 hour cover facility throughout the year and a veterinary surgeon is always on duty.

You have the option of two out-of-hour emergency services.

If you have an emergency after we have closed, just call the surgery number where you will hear an answer phone message giving you the options to call either Pets A+E or Vets Now.

  • Pets A+E are a dedicated emergency service, with a vet and nurse working 24/7.   Situated on the North Ayrshire side of Glasgow, at Kinning Park (G41 1JH).  Pets A+E is easily accessible via the M8 and M77 motorways.  If transport is a problem they do have an ambulance service.
  • Vets Now are also a dedicated emergency service with a vet and nurse working 24/7.  Vets Now is situated in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire at the McKenzie, Bryson and Marshall Veterinary Centre (KA3 1HA).

An alternative mode of transport to either emergency services is a pet taxi service, ‘K9Klub’ based in Fairlie, available 24/7. Please telephone: 01475568188, mobile: 07895 886107.

Veterinary surgeons and nursing staff working in these emergency services are dedicated to providing care out-of-hours, working alongside your own vet at The Oaks Veterinary Centre, who is there to provide your pet with care during regular daytime hours.

Remember, The Oaks Veterinary Centre is open 7 days a week for consultations, i.e. a vet is available in our Largs surgery on a Sunday between 12.30pm and 1:30pm, please phone for an appointment.  For more information, please call the usual surgery number.

Please be advised that as these are out-of-hours emergency services their charges will be higher than for routine consultations.  We highly recommend you have suitable pet insurance that covers there unforeseen situations.

House Calls

We do offer a house call service, if necessary. You should appreciate that it is not always possible to examine the animal as thoroughly as at the surgery and there is a limit to what we can carry in the car. There is a house call fee over and above the normal treatment.

If the call is essential please call as soon after 9.00am as possible to help with organising the veterinary surgeon's visits.
